What the AI Assistant Can Do
The CashBackStacks AI assistant is a conversational interface that answers cashback questions using live data: real portal rates, actual gift card discounts, your saved credit cards, and synced card-linked offers. Instead of navigating multiple pages to piece together an answer, you ask a question in plain language and get a personalized response backed by real-time lookups.
The assistant uses specialized tools that query the same data sources as the rest of the CashBackStacks platform. Every answer reflects current rates, not cached or estimated values.
The assistant is not a generic chatbot. It fetches live data from 50+ portals, 14+ gift card providers, and the full credit card catalog. When it says "Nike is at 12% on TopCashback right now," that is a live rate lookup, not a guess.
What You Can Ask
Each capability is triggered automatically when you ask a relevant question.
Rate Lookups
"What's the best cashback for Nike right now?" The assistant fetches live rates from all 50+ portals for that store, identifies the highest-paying option, and includes deal signal data (whether the rate is above historical averages).
"Compare Rakuten vs TopCashback for electronics stores" Fetches rates for both portals at the specified store and presents a side-by-side comparison with rate type, conditions, and any promotional flags.
"Tell me about BeFrugal" Returns metadata about a portal: how many stores it covers, its reward type, and general characteristics.
Card Matching
"Which card earns the most at Costco?" Matches the store's merchant category against the full credit card catalog and ranks cards by earning rate. If you have saved cards via the extension, your cards are highlighted with a "Personalized" label.
"Chase Freedom Flex vs Citi Custom Cash" Looks up both cards and presents a side-by-side comparison of category bonuses, annual fees, and reward structures.
Gift Cards and Deals
"Any discounted Starbucks gift cards?" Searches across 14+ gift card providers for available discounts on the specified brand, returning current prices and discount percentages.
"Show me today's blazing deals" Pulls from the AI-scored deals feed with optional heat tier and category filters. Hot and blazing deals include deal signals explaining why the rate is notable.
"What are the best stackable deals right now?" Queries the Best Stacks feed for stores where the combination of portal rates, card rewards, and offers produces the highest total savings.
Store Intelligence
"Find stores like Nike" Performs a fuzzy search across the 48,000+ store database, returning matching stores with their categories and available savings sources.
"Full breakdown for Target" Returns the complete store profile: all portal rates, best cards, gift card discounts, deal signals, and evidence data (the same comprehensive view as a store page).
Stack Calculation
"Calculate my stack at Target with Chase Freedom Flex" Runs the full stack calculation for a store: best portal rate + specified card reward + any matching card-linked offers from your synced accounts + gift card alternative path. The result includes a visual breakdown of each layer's contribution.
Portfolio Optimization
"What cards should I get for my spending?" Analyzes the stores you mention and recommends a card combination that maximizes total rewards, factoring in category overlap, annual fees, and earning potential. It uses the same engine as the portfolio optimizer.
Rich Visual Results
The assistant does not just return text. Results render as interactive visual widgets:
- Portal rates with logo, name, and rate badge for each portal
- Card comparisons with category bonus tables and highlighted differences
- Stack breakdowns showing portal, card, offers, and gift card contributions with percentage bars
- Deal feeds with fire ratings, heat tier badges, and rate spike indicators
- Portfolio tables with recommended cards and category coverage maps
Page-Aware Context
The assistant knows which page you are on and adjusts its suggestions accordingly:
- On a store page with prompts like "What's the best portal for this store?" and "Calculate my stack here"
- On the deals page with prompts like "Show me blazing deals" and "Explain this deal's signal"
- On a card page with "What stores earn the most with this card?" and "Compare this card with my portfolio"
- On the stacks page with "Explain this stack breakdown" and "Find money-maker stacks"
This context-awareness means you can ask short questions like "best card here?" and the assistant knows which store you are looking at.
Personalization with the Extension
When you are signed in with the browser extension installed, the assistant becomes fully personalized:
- Your saved cards are used for card matching. "Which of my cards earns the most at Costco?" works because the assistant sees your portfolio.
- Your synced offers are included in stack calculations. If you have an activated Chase Offer for a store, the assistant factors it into the total.
- Card-offer mappings ensure the right offer is paired with the right card in multi-source scenarios.
Without the extension, the assistant still works with full portal rates, gift card data, and the complete card catalog. Card matching uses generic recommendations rather than your specific portfolio, and card-linked offers are not included in stack calculations.

Premium unlocks deal evidence in assistant responses: the AI-generated explanations for why a deal is flagged (e.g., "Nike at 12% via TopCashback is 3x the 30-day average"). Free users see the rate but not the evidence behind the deal signal.
Tips for Getting the Best Answers
- Name specific stores and cards. "Best cashback at Nike with Chase Freedom Flex" produces better results than "best cashback for clothes."
- Ask for comparisons. "Compare Rakuten vs TopCashback for Nike" triggers a structured side-by-side result.
- Request stack calculations. "Calculate my full stack at Target" runs the complete stack engine with all available layers.
- Use the calculator alongside the assistant. The calculator handles hypothetical modeling; the assistant handles live data lookups.
